Lodge Mark Owen's 50th Cocktail Party

The "Wednesday Wheelie Warriors", represented by Bro Pascall Comninos, were presented with a cheque for $2000 from the brethren of Lodge Mark Owen by the Grand Master, Most Worshipful Brother George Curry - who, with Mrs Curry, attended the Fiftieth Birthday Party of the Lodge, a cocktail party held at the Double Bay Masonic Centre on Wednesday, 9-5-2001.

The warriors regularly take their motorbikes to a special school and a children’s hospital, old people's homes and respite centres to give people, especially children who cannot walk (some with terminal illnesses) taste of fresh air and freedom. The money will be used to make a very special sidecar, which will accommodate a patient, complete with a wheelchair.

“The joy on the faces of the children, and the relief it gives the parents, makes it all worth while” said one of the Warriors.

The Grand Master also praised Bro. Comninos, as performing truly Masonic work, when he drives a motor tricycle around King's Cross in the evenings, rescuing young people affected by drugs, and taking them to safety.

The Grand Master mentioned how pleased he was to see so many young members present, and wished the Lodge continued strength the future.

W. Bro. Robert Grant, W.M. of Lodge Mark Owen, told us that the Lodge had been consecrated in 1951, to preserve the memory of a man who had represented the quintessence of friendship and appropriately. The ceremony had been performed by an old and dear friend of his, Past Grand Master, Most Worshipful Bro. John Gouldstone, whose daughter was married to Dr. Hyam Owen, one of the sons of Mark Owen, and who, with five of his brothers, served as the foundation officers of the new Lodge.

Two of the sons of Mark Owen were present at the celebration, Bro Morris Owen and Bro. Septimus Owen, who toasted the visitors
